Nowhere to sleep

A recap of the 19th day crossing America barefoot…

Summary: I didn’t have anywhere to sleep so I slept outside.

It was one of those mornings where you don’t feel like doing anything the rest of your life so you sit in a bed and consume pieces of the internet until you get sad about not doing anything. Eventually I took out my journal:

If I walk a thousand miles for three consecutive days then I’ll be done this trip by the end of the week.

Next to the hotel where I slept there was a sports court. I thought about abandoning my journey and practicing my sports techniques. Instead I took out my journal:

Despite only playing golf once in my life I am still not ready to give up on the dream of one day developing the best golf swing on planet earth.

I began walking through Morristown. There were a lot of signs for George Washington. I guess he once slept in the area. Someone built a statue of him on a horse. I took out my journal:

I wish there were more statues of just horses without anyone riding them.

As I walked through town I noticed a lot of bank people on their way to lunch. One man was talking on his cell phone. He kept saying the word “transaction” over and over. Another man began crossing the street, paused, took out his cell phone, and began yelling into it. I tried to document this moment but I was unable to. After he finished yelling I took out my journal:

I think I understand why so many people fear for their lives on a daily basis.

A milk truck drove by. It did not smell like milk. It smelled like a yard of burning tires. I walked down a hill to a food store. In the parking lot I heard a person say:

I hope they still have some organic Halloween candy left.

I had forgotten it was Halloween. I had not seen a single human being dressed up in a costume all day. I was slightly disappointed. I went inside the store and thought about food for a little bit. An hour later I began walking again. The sun was starting to go down. I probably wasn’t going to find a motel. I would have to sleep outside. This excited me. I took out my journal:

A part of would like to someday abandon all inside places and live my entire life outside.

It got dark sooner than the previous day. I walked into another town. There were no motels. I began to look for two trees next to each other. No one was outside even though it was Halloween. I had not seen a person in a costume all day. I passed an abandoned building. It looked dark behind it. I stepped over a chain fence and found two trees. I hooked my hammock to the trees. As I lay down I thought:

I guess this is where I slept the first night I slept outside on my journey across America barefoot.

What I ate on day 19: Two apples, two bananas, grapefruit, cantaloupe, pineapple, kale, dates, brazil nuts, red chard, beets, hummus, kale chips, a pear, a block of tofu, and broccoli.

Other things:
